Wake Field Design System

The Wake Field Design System is a program that outputs the hull form that realizes your input ideal wake field. This system consists of hull form blending technique and machine learning, and the model of the system is based on the hull form database constructed by CFD.

The Wake Field Design System is a program that outputs the hull form that realizes your input ideal wake. This system is composed of following three functions.

  • (1) Hull Form Blending
    Function to blend (or merge) two user-owned hull form data to obtain a new hull form.
  • (2) Wake Design
    Function to obtain a new hull form which realized an input ideal wake field.
    (Unstructured database is also supported)

The wake Field design system can obtain three-dimensional hull surface data available for CAD and CFD through the following interfaces.

How to use the Wake Field Design System.

The wake design system consists of three functions: Each function can be switched individually in the tabs at the top.

  • (1) Hull Form Blending
    Function to blend (or merge) two user-owned hull form data to obtain a new hull form.
  • (2) Wake Design
    Function to obtain a new hull form which realized an input ideal wake field.
    (Unstructured database is also supported)

(1) HULL FORM BLENDING

The Function of hull form blending can blend (or merge) two user-owned hull form data to obtain a new hull form.
Use the p3d format files of the two hull shapes (format detail is described in the next chapter) for hull blending. The contents of the p3d format file correspond to both the overall structural grid shape and the structural grid shape of the hull surface but must be consistent between the two ship types you enter.

Uploading Geometry Files

Upload p3d format files for the two hull shapes.

Check the uploaded grid shape

If you press "Show Graph", you can check the 3D shape of the hull form uploaded in the browser.

Set hull blending parameters

Set the hull blending parameters, which are the blending parameters for the two hull shapes, with the slider bar.

HULL FORM BLENDING

After pressing “Create blended ship” button, the system will generate a new blended hull form. The calculation will take a little less than 1 minute, so please wait. Once the output is complete, you can see the three-dimensional shape of the input two hull forms and the three blended hull forms.

(2) WAKE DESIGN

The Function of Wake Design can obtain a new hull form which realized an input ideal wake field. Unlike the function of Hull Form from DB, it also supports unstructured databases that are not structurally defined DB with hull form parameters.

Input of the ideal wake

Input the wake distribution you want to achieve. You can enter the distribution directly or upload the specific data file which you can download from this site.

Set Design Constraint

If necessary, enter design criteria (limits) to limit the database to be searched. If blank, design without restrictions.

After pressing the "Create the hull from generating the target wake" button, the system create a new hull form which can generate the input ideal wake field. The calculation will take a little less than 1 minute, so please wait. When the calculation is complete, you can view the three-dimensional shape of the new hull in the browser.


Output data format

newgrid.p3d

Data of structural grids of output hull form. It also contains spatial grid information and can be used directly in CFD calculations that developed in NMRI. The Plot 3d format is compatible with the “.bfc” file format which used in the HULLDES/AUTODES. The p3d format is a standard CFD format developed at the NAPA Ames Research Center in 1982.

newhull.p3d

The hull surface data of the output hull form. The format is plot3d format.

newhull_rhino_mcro.txt

A text file containing commands for generating hull surface data with the three-dimensional CAD software Rhinoceros. If you open the file, copy the contents, paste it on Rhinoceros, and run it, you can recreate the hull shape of the output hull shape on Rhinoceros.
